The small picturesque harbour of Porthgain was once a major exporter of slate and other such materials to all corners of the world. The slate was extracted from what is now the ‘Blue Lagoon’ at Abereiddi and transported over the headland to specially built hoppers and chutes at Porthgain where it was loaded onto ships.
