'Nine' by David Wilson is a portfolio of images limited to editions of 9 prints, thereby ensuring genuine exclusivity. These images present a distinct style of work that explores the bounds of landscape photography, challenging me as a photographer to view my environment in a different light.

Some of the work in this gallery is presented in an alternative way to the other galleries on my site. Again, it is an attempt to portray the environment in a way that challenges peoples' perceptions of what landscape photography is and can be.

Capel Harmoni, Pembrokeshire, West Wales Over the years I had seen this chapel many times without ever having paid much attention to it. On this particular day, I was passing late in the afternoon and noticed how the winter sun had lit up the front of the chapel while the rest of the immediate surroundings were in shadow. I knew that if I exposed the area of white correctly the remainder of the image would be under-exposed, thereby creating a very powerful angular white shape in the landscape. The arching tree provided the perfect framing device and the composition is enhanced by the distant rocky outcrop of Garn Fechan illuminated by the sun. I photographed it as a loosely constructed photo-montage which invests the image with a stark rawness, the weaving together of the images deliberately adding a distortion to the composition. The Crows Walking through woodland, I noticed lots of crows overhead making their usual excitable racket. I found a spot where a number of treetops converged leaving an area of open sky between them, lay flat on my back and waited for the crows to congregate. I set the camera on a high film speed setting to freeze their flying motion, which also adds an atmospheric graininess to the image. A duotone tint was applied to give some warmth. I found this vintage caravan seemingly parked up terminally under a tree in Nant Gwynant, Snowdonia, one of the most outstandingly beautiful areas of Wales. This caravan may have provided wonderful family holidays in years gone by and now it sits huddled poignantly under a tree. I decided to add a traditional film-photo border to the image which I feel adds to the intimacy of the composition which I found very touching. The sizes available also reflect this intimacy. Misty Morning There is a contemplative sense of serenity to the combination of trees and mist. The confident stark shapes of winter trees are softened by the enveloping mist. That was certainly the case with this image. The silvery 'S' shape of the River Nevern meandering down the beach is quite mesmerising. It draws you on an inexorable journey to the foreshore and out to sea. Dinas Island jutting out on the left adds a necessary reference point making it recognisably Newport. Treleddyd Fawr Common, Pembrokeshire, West Wales I have a large tailgate on my car which came in very handy for this photograph. I stood beneath it with my camera and tripod set up sheltering from the driving rain. The foul weather was rolling in from the sea, partially shrouding Carn Penberry to the left.
