Lambs at Blaen y Nant
Lambs at Blaen y Nant

How could I resist this tightly packed huddle of lambs which were being marked for their fateful journey onwards. Being partial to a spot of lamb I had every reason to believe that these would be prticualarly tasty having been raised organically.

Blaen y Nant, The Ogwen Valley, Snowdonia

Home to Gwyn Thomas whose family have farmed this valley for generations. The setting for this farm is truly mesmerising. Just imagine waking up each day to such a monumental back-drop. He assures me he never tires of it!

Croesor Washing
Croesor Washing

I love the juxtaposition of the mundane and spectacular in this image - the tedium of washday and the splendour of Cnicht, surely one of the shapeliest of mountains, towering to 689 metres. The image is undoubtedly helped by the sun illuminating the clothing while the mountain skulks in foreboding shadow.

Snowdon from Llyn Nantlle Uchaf
Snowdon from Llyn Nantlle Uchaf

There was one view in Snowdonia above all else that I wanted to capture: Snowdon from Llyn Nantlle. I was inspired by a painting by the great 18th century landscape artist Richard Wilson (no relation - don't think so anyway!) painted in 1765. And here's my take on it. On this day the peak of Snowdon was obscured by a crown of beautifully fluffy cloud. Even the donkey in the left foreground appears to be rather enjoying the view!

Bird Rock, Cwm Pennant, near Dolgellau
Bird Rock, Cwm Pennant, near Dolgellau

This almost sea-level valley meanders in from the coast right up to the feet of Cadair Idris. And rising out of the valley floor is Bird Rock. Melted snow had caused flooding in the valley which afforded the opportunity for this reflective shot.

Drws y Coed Chapel, near Nantlle
Drws y Coed Chapel, near Nantlle

Chapels were once, in addition to being places of worship, the 'social clubs' of a community. It's where people came together not just spiritually but to interact particularly in the 19th century when the evils of drink were frowned upon and temperance was the expected lifestyle choice. No nipping down the boozer for a few snifters with your mates back then! And this chapel with the imposing ridge of Craig y Bera looming mancingly above really does stir the heart.
